I believe you are 100% correct. BS reports by scribes whose experience consists of telling tales and/or trying the make a gun or cartridge into something that it wasn't designed for have wrecked some good cartridges and guns. (Think 264 Win which lost out to 7mm Rem mag - actually 2 peas in a pod).

The 22 Jet is a fun cartridge, particularly if one handloads but even in the 8 3/8" barrel, it cannot make the velocities that some scribes suggested.
