My brother-in-law usually carries a .44 Magnum to complement his 30-06 on pig hunts. It's a S&W M629 Lew Horton with a 3" barrel. I usually hunt pig with a handgun (Ruger Super Redhawk in .480) so I don't carry back-up. I think a back-up handgun is a good idea as you never know what you'll encounterin the bush.
