Take Ruger for example. The way they have their manufacturing processes set up, Ruger can and will build guns for big distributors like Lipsey's and Talo to the distributor's specs, even if it is a configuration Ruger does not or never has offered themselves. Case in point, the wildly popular New Model Flat Tops in .44 Special that came out a few years ago. They were a limited run, Lipsey's exclusive. They sold so well that Ruger now offers them as a regular catalog item. Before that, Ruger had never offered a single-action in .44 Special.
If Colt doesn't want to take a chance and offer the Python or any of their other discontinued firearms in their own catalog, perhaps they could follow Ruger's lead and offer special runs of those guns through a large distributor.
One can only hope...
