It all depends on what you're going to hunt. If the gun is properly set up with stronger springs (firing pin spring, heavier recoil spring), then it can be a very good 50 to 75 yd gun with a good 200 gr bullet that has a flatter trajectory than the 230 gr load. Mind you, Lee Jurras and his pal George Nonte have shot at game at 100 to 150 yds with a 45 ACP using the then new SuperVel factory loads w/190 gr bullet. I still use a 45 ACP with proper loads (200 gr JHP at 1050 f/s or 200 gr cast semi-wadcutter at 1100 f/s) for game of opportunity. Ex-Ranger Captain, Chuck Taylor has used his 45 ACP with good hunting loads for deer, boar and black bear. Jeff Cooper himself has shot numerous critters with his 45 ACP. |
