While acquiring properties during a facility tour at a Naval Air Station I was led to an 'old vault' which had been used to store precious metals for electronic components. Upon inspection it was revealed to be a Cincinnati Explosive Forming Press Very cool machine, and very rare as it was nearly fully intact. It seems Cincinnati had recalled all of them, banning them from use (removing and disposing of the 'door') as they were found to self-destruct catastrophically. The process was akin to hydro-forming, but was focused on heavy sectioned parts. Really neat process, neat to have seen one of the old-school machines back then. I'm sure the modern process is similar, but done on more robust equipment. Cheers Tinker |
