Re: Hunting with a flintlock pistol??

With Pleasure, Tinker and Vegard
The quartz, held in the jaws of the 'dog', sits on the cover plate. Upon touching the set trigger, the plate slides back exposing the pan's contents and the quartz then touches the wheel under the priming powder, the wheel spins 3/4's turn, creating sparks which ignites the pan pownder which flash ignites the powder in the barrel through the vent hole. It happens seemingly instantaneously, much faster than a flint - about the aspeed as a cap lock, actually- and is quieter than either.

Yes - it's one of Taylors. It is amazingly accurate but due to the wierd grip shape and angles, takes a bit of getting used to. Although only a .40, it will easily hold about 6" at 100 yards. The lock is entirely hand made - by Taylor as are the furnature pieces and sterling silver guard and sterling silver inlays, butt cap and everything else. The stock is ebony - what a job inletting - as hard as the back of God's hand(so to speak). The barrel was a 1" octagonal blank to start with, I think - or might have been 1" round - I don't remember.
