Targets of Opportunity...

Some small game for the pot. We really are not handgun hunters per se, but use pistols and wheelguns for little stuff, varmints, trapped critters and butcher stock mostly.

First, couple weeks ago, Sonny was scouting in his pickup and stopped to take a hike. As soon as he heard the door go click he knew his blunder...door locked and keys inside...

He was over 8 miles away from home, so he started hoofing overland to get me and a spare key.

On his way he made lemons out of the lemonade, arriving home long after dark. Two grouse fell to his Ruger Redhawk and factory 240 grain Federal HP's, along the hike, so the day wasn't a total bust.

Today we were putting up a treestand and took a walk to a blowdown where we've jumped a bunny or two in the past. Ditto today, and with a round of 130 FPFMJ's from my 6" bbl Ruger Security Six one went into the pot.

The treestand project:

I used to collect Smith revolvers, then sold most of them to fund some other project, and then decided I wanted a .357 for the girls and their horse trips. Thus the Ruger Security Six. Great revolver. Feels better in my hand than a Smith K frame, and is quite accurate with .357 and .38 loads. Trigger isn't quite as fine as a Smith, but very useable. As for Junior, when he decided he wanted a .44, we mulled it over and though I prize my Smith Heritage 29-9, told him to get the Ruger Redhawk. He hasn't regretted it. It is heavier than my tapered-barrel Smith, but feels great in the hand and serves all purposes very well.
