Thanks for the tips. I dug out my old NRA Guide to Firearms Assembly. Published in 1980 it covers literally hundreds of rifles,shotguns,revolvers and pistols. It goes into pretty great depth on the Luger to include the mainspring. And mentions the same situation you just described.
