Mine had to sit before even getting petted/praised. I always make a big fuss, now she automatically goes to the heel sit and wags furiously until petted no matter who visits. Since she learned so young she never jumps on anyone or on their car. Leash training ASAP and teach him 'no' asap as well. Speaking of cars, get him going for rides.

Can you get some game bird wings for him to play with? My lab loves to search for chicken eggs. She carries them whole for awhile before eating them.

At this young age teach him to mind things you don't want him attacking. If you have livestock and chickens, etc, expose him to them now. I bet he can begin an interest even in blood trailing.

And just make it all fun for him!
