Re: Wanted advice on new dog

Well the JRT has the heart of a lion and we had about 20 at any one time for foxhunting doing dens with them after the bush had been run by the bigger dogs, nothing for us to have a dozen dogs out for the day with some home in reserve.A great little dog but i myself would recommend a full size foxy nitro or a full size foxy crossed with a whippet makes a great little non aggressive dog that will catch and kill foxes, push rabbits out of bracken, hang off the arse of a pig (nuts) or at least find and bark not eat much and be a staunch and truly loyal ally mate,my old mate Alan Mc had 1/2 doz of these and they worked all game from pigs( they actually caught plenty) foxes and hares......hard workers that dont stop all day whereas the smaller JR`s are a bit short in the leg for all day hunting in the hills mate,i have even seen JR`s go down from constantly walking through wet nettles, the poor buggers start to foam at the mouth etc where the bigger dogs seem to handle them (netts) A foxy whippet to the old timers get the nod quite often due to their all round ability of toughness, pace guts and most importantly NOUSE !
And will soon learn to recognise a GSP on point etc in the right hands but i stress the dog is only as good as the work it gets and the master thats doing the educating.....up to you John.......
