Broken bones...

While running up some slippery outdoor stairs yesterday, our English Pointer named Tiko was unfortunate enough to get his left front leg caught between two steps, which resulted in a broken leg.

He was in a great deal of pain, and as we were on an island at the time, it took a couple of hours to get to the nearest vet. The x-rays confirmed what I had already felt with my fingers when I first checked him:

His leg was stabilized, and I took him to a specialist today now that we are back home. We'll keep the bandage he has now until friday. Then he has to go back for a checkup, when a new bandage/cast will be put on. It appears though that the bones are overlapping enough for it to grow correctly without having to operate and put in a metal plate and bolts.

And of course Tiko will have to basically stay in his bed for 6 weeks, with no movement allowed, and daily doses of painkillers.

Our little 2 year old daughter is rather distressed, as she understands that Tiko is in pain, and tries to comfort him as much as possible. As all of us do, as it's clear that he's not in a happy state.

I hope you guys will cross your fingers for Tiko, and that he has a swift recovery.

Erik
