I've heard of guys around here teaching their Lab's to quarter - That is something the spaniels (mine included) seem to do automatically, roving back and forth in front of you about 25 yards out to flush the birds. Labs become very proficient at it as well and then are hard be beat on pheasant - yes- that bird is very light coloured - IIRC - long legs though.

These are young birds hatched in the spring. They are normally pretty light {hens}.

Yes, what you describe is what my buddy does wonderfully...on a good day!! LOL.

He is a load of fun. Happiest living thing I have ever seen! Always eager, always ready for a hike, a hunt or any adventure {or when encountering any other uncut male..a fight Sheesh...}.
