Warning; Xylitol And Hunting Dogs

Just posting a warning about the sweetener Xylitol. Its use in many products is expanding, and it is a favorite of diabetics and hypoglycemics.

While it is safe for humans, veterinary reports indicate it can be deadly to dogs, causing life-threatening hypoglycemia at the dose of .1 gram per KG of dog weight, and severe liver necrosis at .5 gram per KG of dog weight.

Some dogs have been made severely sick by mere ingestion of chewing gum. Leaving baked goods, dough or other food products sweetened with Xylitol around where dogs could get at them could be disastrous to the dog. For example, a single muffin made with 1/4 cup of wheat flour and sweetened with 24 grams {1/8 cup} of Xylitol would be deadly to a large dog of big Labrador Retriever size {50 KG's/ 110 pound dog}.

Be careful!!
