Re: Jagdterriers in Australia

Hi John!

Nice to be back here!

I can tell you some about the dogs you wrote about, they are quite common here. I've hunted with a lot of them, also the Vorsteh you've got as a background picture on your computer.

About the Jagdterrier, it's a small hunting machine. Big risk it will be hurt by wild boar because it's very offensive. Here it's called the hunters small allround dog, and the Vorsteh is the big allround dog. I would not buy a Jagdterrier if I had small children or other dogs especially not of the same gender. The most of the Jagdterriers I've met is a little bit to sharp for my taste. I'd rather go for the Vorsteh, it's perfect for hunting wounded animals as well. And a good breed for bird hunting - it's allround. The only problem is that it's big.

If you shall hunt wounded wild boar, forget about the spaniels, most of them aren't tough enough. But remember this advice is from the other side of the globe, maybe it's different in Australia.

I hope you'll find a nice allround dog! Good luck!
