Took Tuesday off and headed out for what could be the last realistic chance at a few 'runoff' barra before the cooler weather arrives. Kym dropped a good fish just down from the Shady-Camp barrage, easily a metre, jumped once then the leader broke at the knot! Bugger! We then headed down to the mouth of Sampan Creek, which sometimes fishes well on the neaps, and trolled both sides for about 3 hours without a touch. Bugger! Spat the dummy at that point, and headed out to the shallow reefs a few kms offshore. Had to move three times, but eventually found a patch of jewies. Bart let his go after a long fight, hooked outside the mouth judging by the cheek-scale neatly impaled on the retrieved hook-point! I followed with a couple of small ones, around 50cm and 80cm long: pan size! Kym was next, hooking a monster on his 'whiting rod'! An hour later, and we could all get our lines back in the water again! ![]() I then managed two nice fish in a row, on the stroker. Nothing sporting about a TLD-25 full of 80lb Gorilla-braid! ![]() ![]() Its been a lean year for barra this year, but at least the frige is full of nice thick fillets again! Yumm! ![]() |
