Hunting Art - David & May Southgate - "Hungry Head" Studios

David Southgate, artist, paintings, sculpture. Joined with his wife, May, and her paintings and ceramics, a team of artists enjoying creating artworks celebrating wildlife, the hunt, nature and other subjects.

The "Hungry Head" Studios were opened on New South Wales North Coast in 1983 and showcase David and May's art and ceramics. In addition to their own artworks, many other local artists have been presented to visitors.

Works include individual pieces for private collections, sometimes on commission such as from the Safari Club Internation, Humane Society Internationa; and the Australian Bicentennial Authority.

David Southgate's works in oil, pastel and porcelain sculpture shows his fundamental knowledge of wildlife's movement and behaviour. Drawing upon his early African childhood and travels to add realism to the art works.

May Southgate's works include paintings, ceramics and wildlife drawings. Available on commission, they are also have been featured in exhibitions and won prizes for over 35 years.

See additional pages for examples of wildlife paintins, pottery, ceramics, sculpture, and in particular the beginning of David's latest project featuring Double Rifles and Big Game. Double rifles themselves often being works of art lend themselves well to synergize with wildlife art scenes.
