Holland & Holland 500/450 3 1/4" NITRO EXPRESS Double Rifle

A Holland & Holland 500/450 3 1/4" NITRO EXPRESS Underlever Rebounding Hammer Double Rifle,
(Lever Over guard, Flat sided Hammers) with action still showing a good level of original colour case hardening.
Serial No 17xxx. Circa 1902.
26" Steel Barrels, 1" Swivels. Express sights consist of
1 standing and 2 folding on a quarter rib +
a small front bead preceeded by a fold up moon sight.

Bores and Chambers are shiny and in excellent condition with all of the rifling still sharp and clean.
They still measure exactly .458" (Measured in March 2000). Engraved barrel address of
"Holland & Holland, 98 New Bond St, London".

Regulated for 70 Gns cordite, 480 Gns Max. Rifle shoots
into a 1.5" group (side by side) at 100 yards to the exact point of aim.

Nicely grained Walnut stock with Long Top Strap over comb, shadow line pancake cheek piece
and Blank oval escutcheon, finished off with old red english recoil pad.
LOP is 14 1/2". OAL 43". Lever Locked Fore end with Full Engraving

Cased in a NEW Leather case with new (unmarked) red baize interior and
appropriate H&H Trade and Load Data Label as well as an
H&H Cleaning Rod, Screw Driver, Nipple wrench and Oil Bottle.

This rifle was previously owned by Graeme Wright, author of "Shooting the British Double Rifle"
and is written up on pages 86 in his book, as (Quote) "Using my records the very best groups
that I have obtained at 50 yards are as follows. A H&H 500/450 x 3 1/4" - 0.8 inches (4 shots) "

Note that this is quite late manufacture (1902) for an Underlever Hammer gun when one
considers that the Holland Royal (AB) action had been on the market for a few years.
