In looking more closely, the wood is flush with the top strap - light fooling me in one photo.
I suppose a sidelock has to have more width in the head of the stock than a typical boxlock simply to keep the locks parallel to each other.
Superb workmanship for sure but I find many of the exhibition grade Westleys are over the top.
