A .500/.450 (2 1/2IN.) ROTARY-UNDERLEVER DOUBLE-BARRELLED HAMMER RIFLE, CONVERTED BY G.E. LEWIS, serial no. 6622, ref. no. 0742,
converted from muzzle-loader, serial number on buttplate only, 26in. damascus barrels with Henry patent rifling, the tubes engraved '(HENRY'S PATENT) CONVERTED TO B.L. BY G.E. LEWIS. 32 & 33 LOWER LOVEDAY ST. BIRMINGHAM.', the undersides marked 'HENRY'S PATENT A&T NO.3 / 4', matt rib with bead fore-sight and three folding leaf sights with gold-inlaid centre-lines, sprung rotary underlever, carved percussion fences, non-rebounding locks with bolted faceted hammers, engraved with acanthus scrollwork and 'SAML. & C. SMITH. PRINCES ST. LONDON', retaining some original colour-hardening and finish, spurred triggerguard retaining its reference number identification tag from the Small Arms School Corps weapons collection, 14 1/4in. figured stock with blued steel buttplate with elongated top-strap engraved with the serial number, the right side of the stock with patch box with engraved hinged trap retaining much original colour-hardening and finish, sling eyes, the stock also with an escutcheon bearing the motto 'SPES MEA CHRISTUS' surmounted with a shield crested with a lion's head erased, complete with its Small Arms School Corps collection identification tag

Provenance: Research would indicate that the Coat of Arms, crest and motto were those used by Henry Corles Bingham (1810 - 1868) of Wartnaby Hall, Leicestershire.
Mr Bingham was a magistrate for the counties of Leicester, Derby and Nottinghamshire. He was admitted into the Institution of Civil Engineers in 1839, and was High Sheriff of Leicestershire in 1854.

Other Notes: The digits '3' and '4' coming after the 'A&T' mark are the use numbers of the Henry patent rifling record, indicating that these were the third and fourth barrels constructed by Adams & Tait (Birmingham barrel makers) under this patent

HENRY, EDINBURGH AND LONDON. MAKER TO THEIR ROYAL HIGHNESS' THE PRINCE OF WALES AND DUKE OF EDINBURGH', Henry patent rifling, patent no. 2802 of 15th November 1860, Adams & Tait use number 5766, long action with Jones patent rotary-underlever, carved percussion fences, rebounding back-action locks with bolted dolphin hammers, fine border and acanthus scroll engraving with some ropework bordering, retaining very slight traces of original colour-hardening, 14 3/8in. highly-figured pistolgrip stock with cheekpiece, engraved steel pistolgrip-cap (with trap), engraved sling eyes and engraved steel heel and toe plates, fore-end with grip-catch release lever, weight 8lb. 9oz., in its brass-cornered oak and leather case with serial numbered or calibre designated accessories and gold-tooled red leather trade label

A 16-BORE PINFIRE DOUBLE-BARRELLED BIG-GAME RIFLE, serial no. 6213,
for 1863, with re-finished 26in. damascus barrels, broad flat top-rib with dove-tailed bead fore-sight and standing notch rear-sight with three additional folding leaves, scroll engraving to the rib-end at breech, border and scroll engraved round-bodied action with swing under-lever, border and scroll engraved back-action locks signed 'WILKINSON & SON', scroll engraved hammers with bolted safeties, fully scroll engraved long top-tang with ball end, walnut chequered full pistol-grip butt-stock, engraved iron grip-cap, raised tear-drop cheek-piece, iron heel-plate, chequered walnut splinter fore-end with swing catch marked 'WILKINSON'S LEVER FORE END REGISTERED 13th SEPTr 1860' and eyelets for sling

Other Notes: According to the Wilkinson records this rifle was completed for a Captain Fisher in June of 1863. It is believed that this is Capt, Edward Row Fisher, 4th Dragoon Guards who served in the Crimea, being present as a Lieutenant at the battles of Balaclava, Tchernaya and Sebastopol, being subsequently promoted to the rank of Captain in 1860
