Bolted Safety - A standard feature on a Holland & Holland Royal / deluxe double rifle.
A secondary catch on the standard safety, often seen on big-bore double rifles, designed to prevent accidental disengagement by a careless gun bearer.
IN SHORT - iT'S THERE FOR A GOOD REASON!
Why do some people always want to re-invent the wheel, or try to fuck up a steel ball with a rubber hammer?
Nordmann, it is there for a reason but you do not know why. I hope no one on this forum will take me for a rascist as I am not but if you talk to anyone in the trade the bolted safety is called a "nigger safety". In the old days the gunbearers were constantly clicking the safety on and off for something to do. The bolted safety stopped them doing so. It is not a standard feature on a Holland royal and never has been. It is possibly the worst idea on a dangerous game rifle I have ever come across !, best, Mike
