That's a very nice rifle and would be fine for your small deer!

My rifle is a 2.75" version. You will need to do a bit of tinkering and shooting to develop a proper load for your rifle. These things tend to be individualistic. One caution I will mention: my rifle will not tolerate the use of Varget. In Marrakai's article you will see that is the powder he uses. But he is using a jacketed bullet of greater weight than mine. I got hangfires when I tried Varget. My supposition is that my paper patched bullet gives less resistance at the leade than a heavier jacketed round.
