A search of the archives didn't turn up any threads solely dedicated to the beautiful cases and tools that (if we're lucky) accompany our rifles. Their craftsmanship and artistry is a fitting compliment to these great rifles and they can tell a story in and of themselves. To this end, the next time you have your rifles out perhaps snap a few new close-up pictures and consider adding them to this thread so we have them under one roof. It would be great fun to see some of the exteriors embossed with the owner's names, regimental affiliations, rail stickers, etc as well as the interior maker's labels and charging instructions. Additionally, with the passage of time so many of the original accessories are lost and the tools once housed in the partitioned spaces are a mystery. With enough submissions, we may be able to get a better idea of 'what goes where.' Of course a little background on the rifle and commentary on whether the attendant tools are believed to be original to the set, or added at a latter date would be helpful, too. While researching reloading tools I found a nice website some of you may be unfamiliar with. Looking forward to everyone's submissions, Bill |
