It's certainly possible Smyth put the rifle in storage on August 23, 1906. Maybe he was being assigned to duty in India. He couldn't take this rifle with him at that time because of the .45 caliber ban in India. That's probably when this rifle went into deep storage, as did many .45 caliber rifles owned by British officers. If only the rifle could talk. . . Curl |
