A few months ago I bought a Stephen Grant 577/500 3-1/8" and after contacting Atkin Grant & Lang, I found out that my rifle was built for the Maharana of Oodeypore just like this Purdey. The Grant is a hammerless sidelock that was completed in 1887 and unlike this rifle, it has seen a lot of use. I have been researching Maharana Fateh Singh for the last two months or so and I have found references to him having killed over 1,000 tigers during his life not counting leopards and panthers. I wonder who ended up with that Purdey. I could provide a lot of historical information on its original owner.
