This is an 11 pound rifle. I use 110 gr IMR 4831 with a 570 gr Woodleigh or 103 gr H4350 with a 570 grain GS Custom FN solid. The rifle has plans to go on elephant duty this year in Zim.

The Hambrusch website is http://www.ferlachguns.com/
They also make bolt action repeaters up to .700 NE, drillings, vierlings, etc.
Bolt action .600 NE:

That's a beautiful rifle 500grains. How does this one shoot compared to other 500NE's you've owned or shot with?

Re: .500 Hambrusch double

Accuracy is good, but felt recoil is less because of the stock cast. As this rifle recoils, the stock moves away from my face. The worst feeling double I have shot was a Thys .470 that knocked me square in the cheekbone every shot because the cast was wrong for me (but it was probably right for someone else).

Do you know if Hambrusch also makes more basic guns, or just higher end ones? I presume his doubles start at a far higher price than the typical Chapuis/Heym catagory?

I do not know where his prices start but his website does show a new basic 8x57 on a new M98 action, so he probably has some offerings for less than 10K.

Interesting that the Hambrusch regulates with the same load as a Searcy 500.

Re: .500 Hambrusch double

Hambrusch uses Kynoch ammo to regulate his guns, but Searcy's load regulates in it just right.

I have a Cape Gun, 16/65 - 9,3 X 72 R, made in 1919 by Peter Hambrusch's grandfather. A beautiful gun indeed.

Re: .500 Hambrusch double

It is beautiful looking and I'd enjoy shooting
it I'll bet. You shoot it well Dan. Is it built
with 50% of its weight in the center 33.333% of
it's length as is the U.K. pattern, or is the
weight distributed 33.333% forward, center and
rearward, European pattern?

Re: .500 Hambrusch double

Jack, I do not know what the weight distribution is.

BFJ, Is it really possible to have that sort of weight distribution on a double? Come to think of it, I do remember a double which had been built from a shotgun and the rifle barrels were sleeved full length inside the shottie tubes. It was a 444 Marlin chambering and I reckon that double may have had close to equal weight in the forward, center and rear thirds. My .470 is a European double and it's proportions and style are similar to many English doubles.
The Hambrusch sure shoots nice. ![](/images/graemlins/cool.gif)

I shot 500Grains 500 again a couple of weeks ago. The shots were fired at 25 yards off hand, in the snow no less, and they hit side by side almost touching, the shots perfectly in line wih the sights.
It is one perfectly regulated and sighted in double.
It handles very nice as well.
