Very nice indeed. Superb lines to the reinforcing, nice strap over comb.

The only think I don't like, and it is very minor
is the tear drop shape on the stock, looks to me
at the wrong angle / shape.

But overall a beauty.

Re: New VERNEY-CARRON 470

Took the V-C out for a walk this weekend and although I didn't shoot anything with it I did use it on a follow up of a big Boar that a mate wounded with his 9.3.
I tracked it down into a valley through some awfully thick bush (hands & knees stuff) until loosing the small amounts of blood and prints due to other spoor and rain. Its quite a comfortable rifle to carry and now for next weekend to see how it shoots.

Not particularly, other than it easier to install at this hight and the targets of these big bore rifles often stand at this hight.

Congratulations on a very fine double!

I was just wondering on the different finishes on the rifles in the picture:

First one has a curved line between receiver and wood, but has a "clean" receiver otherwise. Is it the PH of today?

The second one I persume is Adams excellent double? I really like the straight line between the receiver and wood. Likewise the spliter for end.
The receiver however is different from the others. Are the others the more "english style" they also offer?

Does anyone have pictures of these rifles closer up, perhaps describing which "extras" they have compared to the Azur PH currently made?

If I choose to put in an order for one, IŽd like it to be "english" in the receiver, preferably straight line between the receiver and wood, along with a splinter forend.

I would very much appreciate some feedback on this.

Re: New VERNEY-CARRON 470

bonde-I will try and help, all the V-C guns are made to order so you can get the receiver with or without a scallop, you also have a choice of splinter or semi-beavertail forearm, same with the grip angle, barrel length, sights, engraving, etc.
Talk to your local importer and he should be able to help with your questions.
A couple of pdf catalogs can be seen at verney-carron.us

Re: New VERNEY-CARRON 470

Bonde,
The first one is a Azur PH and like you I prefer the straight back of the action.
I would also look at a shorter splinter fore-end with 24" barrels, reverse checkering on the pistol grip, 70mm drop in heal and in ether 450NE, 470NE or 500NE.

Re: New VERNEY-CARRON 470

What is the weight on this particular rifle Adam?

Would a .500 reach a manageable weight when it is made to balance nicely with 26" bbl?

ozhunter
(.400 member)
09/01/13 05:24 PM
Re: New VERNEY-CARRON 470

Bonde, I ordered it to be 10.25lbs but I have not checked.
Imo, a 500NE needs to weigh in at around 11lbs. they would need to add more lead to the stock to balance it out.

Re: New VERNEY-CARRON 470

Had the opportunity to shoot a few round today and fine tuned the sights to my preferred position of "dead on" at 40m off hand.
Like most double riles today, they seem to be set for the "6olclock position" which is a more accurate method but for game hunting I find it not as natural for quick aiming.
Before straight from factory. 6 shots off hand at 60m;

After adjusting v sight.6 shots at 40m off hand (the way this rifle will be used);

________________________
Kamilaroi, Where in the world are you getting the idea that these are Beesley forend releases? Two major releases are usually used on modern doubles, the Anson release, and the Deeley release. The Anson is usually used on sxs, while the Deeley usually used on over/unders, but especially used by German makers today. One was originally designed by Anson, and the other by Deeley, who worked for Westley Richards at the time. The Anson is extremely durable; hardly ever wears to point it won't work correctly, and is the simplest to make and fit to a double, compared to the Deeley release. What you are calling a Rigby release is also very simple in design, and very effective in use, but it wasn't designed originally by Rigby either! If I recall correctly, it was designed by W.C. Scott.
