And as a lawyer who still does that, I recall the comments of the CEO an insurance company I was representing, "Hell Dave, that's too much money. We are in business to collect premiums and invest them, not to pay claims! Can't you explain that to the judge?" Yes, I could and, with tongue in cheek, did.
