A dissenting voice: If you look carefully, you will see some nice hammer guns and a few BPE, but only one or two hammerless Nitro doubles, the real 'meat' of the current high end doubles market. A single H&H Royal in 375 H&H, but the description seems to show 'ridden hard and put away wet.' Relatively few high end or really clean 'modern' (i.e 1900-1939) collecter's doubles show up at American Auctions, or (following the British Auction series in DOUBLE GUN JOURNAL) even on the other side of the Pond. Most trade hands privately or through dealers like George, Monty Whitley, WR, Cabelas, WL Moore, etc. Others show up on sites such as Guns International. On the other hand, as an avid American Single Shot collector, Sharps, Rolling Blocks, etc. there are several REALLY nice pieces in this auction for me to waste my money on. :-) Dave |
