Thanks Marrakai and Mickey, About 25 years ago I invented a sight that aimed to fix regulation problems by providing a separate rear sight leaf for each barrel, which would be alternated by recoil inertia. There were a number of versions working in different ways. Some toggled back and forward and could be pinned on the vent rib of a shotgun for using rifled slugs. Some reset themselves if you fired only one barrel and then reloaded. Some were purely as sights for rare long distance work and included tang peep versions. There was even one for telesopes using a variation on the old B&L detachable mount, but that was taking it too far. It comes up at the top of Google's Patent search if you type in 'alternating rifle sights'. All the ones in the American patent were pretty clunky, representing the mechanics, not how they should really look, but later I thought of a prettier version that looked like just another couple of leaves at the far end of the quarter rib. Anyway, in his book, GW mentioned that he had heard of such a thing and couldn't think of a stupider idea. - Paul |
