Recoil pad replacement

Hi all,

I want to replace the recoil pad on my Rigby. The Silvers pad that it came with in 1926 is just too hard. The rifle is painful to shoot as it is. Shooting it with a "Gamekeeper" brand leather slip on pad is not quite comfortable enough, and ugly to boot. When I shoot it using a pad that straps to my shoulder it is a delight.

If you'll notice from the picture, the butt of the stock is curved from heel to toe. The first two people that I talked to about replacing the pad wanted to just saw the butt straight to make it easy to attach a new pad! Needless to say I left there in a hurry.

I'm trying to decide between a new silvers pad (too hard?) or a Pachmayr Decelerator. I want it to be comfortable to shoot and look nice. Apparently changing the pad wont affect the value of the gun.

Opinions?

Thanks,

Armbar.
