Seyfried does have a lot of good things to say, certainly. I am betting that like CE Harris before him, he got sick of "The Industry" and more-or-less jumped ship. I know that's what happened to Ed Harris, not sure about Seyfried. There are good reasons for getting sick of the industry. Lots. Some might be surprised to know some other writers who have pulled out of it. Guns last a long time, longer than the buyers, typically! That right there means that the industry exists on multiple sales to the same people, since new shooters only slowly enter the gun buying market, particularly the long gun market. Since American gun rags are no longer forums for technical research and the trading of information {guess where that takes place?} and since there are MANY people in the country who have as much or more experience as do the gun writers, the gun rags have essentially become mere advertising slicks for the myriad products of the industry; guns and accessories. "New and improved" this, "Gotta get" that. If a guy wants to write about guns and get paid for it, he will for the most part be merely a salesman for the companies that advertise in his magazine. He is NOT a disinterested third party. Dirty little secret? No, just free market forces at work. Anyway, sorry to hijack my own post... |
