I have a lead sled and have used it for sighting in initially and they I finalize the sight in process without the sled. I too, have worried about ill effects on the rifle and not letting it recoil naturally so what I have done is to use a lower amount of weight which enables the rifle to reciol more naturally and still subdue some of the recoil--seems to work well ..Just FYI...
