"Don't do too much or any shooting from a bench with your big bore. A standing rest is better to lessen the recoil effect on your shoulder. Also eight shots are more than enough to start to seriously hurt on any big bore if shooting paper targets." My solution to the heavy recoil problem is a crude device I had built years ago. A much more elegant solution is the Caldwell Lead Sled (sold by Midway at http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=152664 ). Essentially, it increases the weight of any rifle until the recoil is manageable and you can sight in to your heart's content without risking developing a flinch or suffering other effects from repeated exposure to heavy recoil. Be sure and read the reviews posted on the Midway site. |
