9.3 x 74R Velocities Following are a few notes from my range book. Rifle used is a Franz Sodia, Ferlach O/U she was built in 1959 and I have the original factory test target showing 286 TUG bullets. With Norma Alaska each barrel will put 2 rds in under an inch at 100m, but 4 inches apart, barrels are crossing. (Originally I thought they were not crossing but I had made an error writing up my range notes) Bullet weight has not changed this. The last load with Woodleigh 286 gr is now two inches apart vertical but my velocity is now just under 2000 fps. I have a dilemma, as I want to use the 286 Gr WoodLeigh for plains game and would like a min of 2200 fps. Although I have a Merkel B3 ordered for Africa I see all of this as relevant research. I also have an Antonio Zoli that appears to shoot all weights into 2 inches at 100m despite a loose rib! Ferlach O/U Norma Alaska 286 Gr 2400 fps Norma Vulka 235 Gr 2576 fps RWS 293 Gr 2197 fps IMR 4064 56 Gr 270Gr Speer 2426 fps IMR 4350 64 Gr 270 Gr Speer 2276 fps IMR 4831 62 Gr 286 Gr Norma Alaska bullet 2278 fps IMR 4831 60 Gr 286 Gr WoodLeigh 1959 fps. What I can say is that the 9.3 x 74R is an absolute delight to shoot, I am only 165 lbs and don’t particularly like heavy recoil, but I fine her real “pussy cat”. I highly recommend this cartridge.
