I suspect you are correct. My Cogswell was built in 1909 and is nitro proofed. I have a friend who loads for his slightly later gun and he and I are going to go out and pot some steel pigs at his place this weekend. He seems to have no recoil issues and it may be that this is simply one of those urban legends that crop up in our hobby from time to time. Thanks for the input. Dave
