Re: Engraving

Livinus is right, Belgian engravers lived on their reputation for too long and life was easy. They either got lots of subcontracted orders from the top gunmakers from all over the world or were employed by the Belgian big makers. This was the case with 2 famous FN master engravers : Louis Vranken and his successor José Baerten, who (lucky me) signed my double rifle pictured above.
Being under restrictive employment contract, most engravers, and among them some big names, did (do ?) moonlight under an alias though. Today, if asked for the present leading Belgian engravers, I'd think about Alain Lovenberg and Philippe Grifnée (NB.: yes, the one who porno-engraved the Francotte gun...).

Personalia :
Mehul, a Google search should net lots of info on Belgian engravers.

Livinus, keep me posted about your whereabouts in Belgium. I can't tell yet if I'll be around on 08/20th. Either that week (or the week before ?) I'll be guest-hunting Chamois in the Austrian Alps in the Swarovski preserve. Actual dates are not set yet.
