If one already has a Big Bore Double for nasties and wishes to consider a second scoped medium Double to do double duty for accuracy more than smack--- Accuracy is not the Big Bore forte cause crunch power is needed for close range encounters.Still, hunting situations for long range accuracy do occur. The 9.3 x 74R is reasonable accurate scoped but many do not consider it a "longer range" Double at 2150 fps.The 450/400 scoped is great but again not a "longer range" Double at 2150 fps. "Long Range" being 250+ yards. Bullet theory suggests more bullet velocity should give less drop and longer legs. As a followup to 500 grains thread discussing the theory of Double long range acuraccy I have been told that a O/U has more long range accuracy potential than a SxS due to the stacked barrels. Is this valid? What are the LONG RANGE MEDIUM DOUBLE candidates? DO ANY EXIST? Would the 375 H&H be one? How about a qd scoped 375 H&H O/U vs a qd scoped SxS? Are there others? Can a medium Double realistically be a "long range" rifle?? ![]() ![]() |
