I would say from my limited research that a Searcy in 470 would be a good investment. I am a new owner of a 9.3X74 so have no real experience with a double of that size. I do have experience with recoil in max .458 loads. I have owned, reloaded for, and shot two over the last 15 years. The Marlin 45-70 was worse in the recoil department due to the poor stock shape with max loads. You won't have that problem with a gun made for and fitted to you. Check out the reputation of Butch Searcy on the internet both here and at Accurate Reloading. These two sites are my major contributors of knowledge. Read that "In the Salt" book and order Graeme Wright's book "Shooting the British Double Rifle". Try Huntington's, they still have some in stock. Last I thnk my ele chances are nil and would opt for a 450-400 3" for a few trips to Argentina. It looks like Ele have gone over the top in price for me. Good luck. Rusty Zipper |
