I have a Chapuis 45-70 double rifle. It was imported by someone named Trainer, I think. I'm guessing it came here in the late 70's or early 80's. JJ currently has the rifle to repair a broken ejector spring, so I can't check the name. This rifle has been reregulated to shoot Elmer Keith's load, 400 grain bullet at 1800 fps. I believe this rifle is adequate for any North American game, except the brown bear. I think most people overlook the fact that a 45-70 with these ballistics has a point blank range of about 200 yards.
