Re: Choosing a caliber for North America

Another caliber to think about is the 7x57R or itīs larger brother 7x65R

Both cals make great ds for both shorter and the occasional longer shot.

The 7x65R packs a good woop I tell you.

My drilling, a Merkel 32 has the 7x57R rifled barrel and with a 175 grains bullet itīs pure death in that barrel.

Had a yearling pig enter a small opening during a stalking hunt, I was really looking for a rabbit or two but who is picky? Any way the red dot low in the shoulder of the smallish pig and boom, shot fired, connected and the pig just tumbled head over heels just like the sought after rabbits do..

When fieldressed the bullet was a through and through, both shoulderblades..

Ok distance was a mere 65 meter but still, any whitetail or other deer as well as yearling pigs are well within the limits of the kind 7x57R, needlees to say there really isīnt any recoil at all from the round.
