Recoil and the nature of recoil is a very personal thing. As one ages the tolerance for recoil goes down.Arthritic changes in the A-C joint and tendonitis in the musculature of the shoulder can make shooting a 270 intolerable. It happens. I have just acquired a 416 Rigby that is nasty in the recoil department primarily due to a drop at the comb like a lever action. It is getting restocked.I don't like getting smacked in the cheek. I don't mind being pushed backward but having my cheek smacked by an upward recoiling gun is taboo. A stock with the right comb height helps considerable. I have restocked most of my big boomers. |
