Re: Trigger pull weight

In reply to:

A friend of mine has a Merkel 9.3 x 74 .We could't make the thing group until we finally figured the trigger pulls were a bit heavy.Upon checking with the gunsmith and using a LCD digital trigger gauge with a max capicty of 12 pounds. Both triggers were in excess of 12 pound.
they are 4 and 5 pound now and the rifle shoots very well.
May be it's a Merkel thing ?
good shooting

sbs470 The 9.3X74R Merkels S/S has a set trigger on the front/right trigger! The trigger pull with this trigger, un-set,will be considerably heavier than when set. The back/Left trigger is not a set trigger. This is one reason you need to have a person who knows double rifles do your triggers. You rarely see set triggers on a shotgun, so the average shotgun smith is not the man you need. I reccomend JJ at Champlins! The un-set front pull should be around 5 lbs, with it set being at around 3lbs. The back trigger should be about 5 lbs.

The 470NE Merkel doesn't have set trigger, and needs to be about 5 lbs for the front, and 5.5 for the rear!

I have both of these rifles, and the un-set portion of my front trigger of the 9.3 rifle is too heavy, and is going to JJ post haste, for some adjustment. My 470NE is perfect, needing no work at all.
