I am under the impression that Capstick was originally a New York City travel agent who was also writing articles on Africa then was forced to actually go to Africa by his publisher, then later published a lot of stories he heard while running a bar in South Africa. I don't know when Capstick started writing, but some of the apparent information parallels the 1963 Bob Hope movie "Call Me Bwana" which was about an author in New York who was supposedly the world's foremost expert on Africa although he'd never been there.
