Re: *WANTED* Westley Richards Droplock Double Rifles

The 9.3 at WLM is rechambered, rebored, and reproved from .400/.360 Westley Richards.

No, the conversions of .400/.360s to 9.3X74R aren't done because the .400/.360s are so "unpopular with the faithful". You have to remember that pristine .400/.350s and .350 No. 2s are butchered just as fast in England. These conversions to 9.3 are done for the European market only. Paul Roberts has been doing them for years because his European clientele will pay a great deal more for them that way. Here in the US, a nice original .400/.360, .400/.350, or .350 No. 2 will bring substantially more than one converted to 9.3.

I agree that the .400/.360 Westley at CSM isn't original, at least the bear on the floorplate isn't. I'm not convinced about the tang sight. Many, many, many British double rifles left the makers with options that were never listed in a catalog. They're hand made guns and every one of them was a one-off. They left the maker the way the customer ordered them. Like a Holland "Royal" .465 with a straight Greener rib extension and crossbolt, or a Holland "Royal DeLuxe", their very best DR, built as a flat-back with a through lump (which a best gun ain't supposed to have).
