I enjoy shooting shotguns and double barreled shotguns but notice my technique is very different with the 470 Merkel double. With a shotgun there is less pull back into the shoulder and more aiming with the forehand with more brisk pulling of the trigger finger. The double is all about control with the butt in the shoulder, and the foreend controled with lateral finger/thumb pressure while the trigger finger gently squeezes the trigger using the distal joint. Things aren't as accurate and the recoil controlled less when the foreend is more loosely held for snap offhand shots. More upward recoil is noted as well. No flinching is present(that I am aware of) and the stock is not slapping my cheek. Any Double technique shooting tips out there to enhance accuracy and get a quicker 2nd shot on target? Much thanks to all for any advise beforehand. This is my first double and I want to shoot it well.It definitely shoots and feels different from my heavy bolt rifles. |
