I think you've overgeneralized the English guns. Yes, many had ejectors, but I would guess that just as many didn't. Of the rifles owned by the famous pre-war African hunters that I've seen and handled, quite a few were non-ejector. With regard to the German guns, I think what 577/500WR said makes sense. As long as you don't buy one in a rimless caliber, which isn't a good idea anyway, it really doesn't matter in DR. I own both, and don't particularly care for ejectors.
