I have spoken with several PH's and for a direct head on or mmimally quartering shot they suggest the heart shot.Although certainly effective as a killing shot this does not appeal to me if the animal then bolts right at me with one shot remaining in the double. The animal can be dead on his feet, hook me, and still plow thru me like a freight train!! The anterior neck shot has merit and may be more effective with a greater ?margin for large caliber doubles.More shock and energy supposedly. I generally avoid the front on neck shot on large animals due to the chance of wounding/loosing the animals. What head-on shot do the members of this forum recommend with a cape buffalo?
