I've watched several of these great films and having watched and shot several feral cats, I believe they actually shot the lions during the charge scenes in the films. I can't see how they could get a lion to repeatedly flip head over tail like that with cables or snares. A cat shot in the head will do the exact thing; on a smaller basis, of course!
