AKA When I started out hunting for a living, and upgraded from a 373 H&H, I had a Brno 602 in 458 converted to a 460 Wby. Set up the chrono, and the first 500gn factory round came out the business end at 2714 FPS. As a journalist, whose name I cannot recall, once wrote in a gun magazine, this experience proved to be a "SIGNIFICANT EMOTIONAL EVENT". IT KICKED THE LIVING #!IT OUT OF ME. The stock retired immediately, I felt a little disillusioned, and sold the the gun to a fellow operator, who probably broke all records by selling it within about 15 minutes of him owning it. A few years later, in 1994, I met Butch Searcy for the 1st time in SA, and had the chance to shoot on of his 577's. The best way to way to compare the two, is a "SEVERE BITCH SLAPPING" to a "MODERATE PUNCH" on the shoulder from a larger than average gentleman. With this being said, one has to take into account that the 460 was not a quality custom built gun, and wieghed around 9 lbs. Brad |
