I never carry my double open in the field while hunting. One tiny twig or grass-seed on the flats and it won't close, and it takes too long to identify the problem and clear it in an emergency. I carry mine on the shoulder, closed, barrels to the rear.

It is a common courtesy to break the gun in company though, as Cindy has done in the photo. Looks cute, hey!
